We have been selling Adult Videos for ten years. One thing I can say after ten years is that the amount of Adult retailers has become much smaller. The Adult DVD business is as tough and competitive and the days of doing this part-time or just doing it because you like porn are long gone. Customers expect the same service and value as with any other business. So why are there still a million sites our there? The reason there are still so many sites is because the large distributors have set up affiliate programs, so anyone can have their own Adult DVD site. You just mask the domain name and you are in business. You market the site and the distributor pays you a commission for what you sell. Why do these sites suck? Because their prices are really high. They have to pay 25-50% commission to the owners of the affiliate site so they can't offer specials like we can. We are one of the few American owned independent Adult DVD sites left on the net. We employ all local people in West Chester PA. Its a real conservative town and not everyone loves us but that's what its like for porn on the East Coast.

People always ask me what I do and people are always shocked. Their very first question is "how did you get into that?" The truth is I never wanted to sell porn. I never had a big collection. I knew the classic stars growing up like Christy Canyon and then Jenna Jameson, but I didn't know the in's and out's. I was a huge movie fan. I owned about 500 Hollywood movies on VHS. Then DVD hit and I went out and bought a 5 disc changer (what a dumb feature, do they even make those anymore?) for about $1000. I thought this would change the movie business. People would want all their favorite VHS movies on DVD so they would last longer and they could skip scenes (no more "be kind rewind.") So I wanted to sell Hollywood DVDs. I met with some distributors and got started. I soon realized I could buy DVDs at Target and Walmart cheaper than I could buy them from my distributors. I was ready to do something else when my best friend suggested I get into the Adult Video business. Back in 1990 it was a real closed club. You had to know someone or nobody would even talk to you. He gave me a contact and I made some purchases. My first purchase was a case of 50 Vivid 4 Hour Videos. I started scanning them and built a site. Back in 1990 your site could really suck and people would still buy from you. I started making some sales and asking people if they wanted to join our mailing list. After ten years we have 27,000 people on our list. If you don't buy in a year we drop you.

We have moved our business more times that I can to think about to accomodate different needs and changes in the business. We have recently settled into a 3 story building in West Chester. The building houses all our inventory, shipping area, offices including an employee lounge with rooftop access and of course the late night party room that features only a king size platform bed as furniture.

Things here are always changing and sometimes we grow too fast. We have run specials that have resulted in selling twice as many DVDs as normal in a single week. This can put a strain on all our resources and man hours. We do our best to react and get orders our as quickly as possible.

That's a quick synopsis of what's going on now and what we have been doing over the last ten years.
